The standard all intruder alarms were installed to between 1984 and October 2005.
All systems installed after January 2002 with remote signalling, i.e. digital communicator or Redcare and requiring police response had to be designed with confirmation. DD243:2004 supersedes the 2002 issue.
The three methods of confirmation designed to lessen the likelihood of a policed false activation:
a) Sequential: 2 separate detection devices must activate to provide a confirmed alarm signal. (Normally within a half hour time window).
b) Visual: Normally by means of transmitted images confirming activity on site.
c) Audio: Normally by the transmission of audio from site following activation.
Of all the above (a) is the most used because it is cost effective and does not rely on the interpretation of images and or audio.
This replaced BS4737 and was implemented in October 2005. Each system installed has to be graded.
The equipment is also graded by the manufacturer.
Grades:
Grade 1: Very basic equipment normally DIY and not accepted by professional bodies.
Grade 2X: Low to Medium risk system without remote monitoring. Normally domestic properties.
Grade 2: Low to Medium risk systems with remote monitoring. Designed to include DD243 confirmation. Normally domestic or small commercial properties.
Grade 3: Medium to High risk system with remote monitoring. Designed to include DD243 confirmation. Normally commercial properties with a high risk category.
The ACPO policy can be found at www.Acpo.police.uk listed under security systems policy, and governs the design and alarm management for security systems. Each police force has adopted and implemented their interpretation of this policy.
Application for police response: Each police require the system to have a Unique Reference Number (URN). This is issued to the installation company by the police and there is a police administration charge for this.
Management of False Activations:
2 false policed activations, in a rolling 12 months period, result in a police letter warning of the possible removal of response.
1 further false policed activation within the same 12 month period will result in a police letter removing response from the system.
The police will normally offer a 3 month period for the system to be false alarm free before considering its reinstatement.
If the system is not reinstated before a period of 6 months has passed the police withdraw the URN.
Response withdrawn with URN suspended:
Any system not designed to DD243: 2004 will need to be redesigned to this standard
Any system already designed to DD243:2004: The police will require a report, normally from the installer, as to why the system design allowed the false activations and how this has been overcome.
URN withdrawn (In excess of 6 months after the response withdrawn):
Any system requiring a new Unique Reference Number (URN) will be required to
comply with PD6662, (UK interpretation of the European standard prEN50131-1).
Basically this will mean the design and installation of a new system.
Please note the police also charge an administration fee for the issue of a URN.
One of our system designers will contact you for convenient appointment to carry out a site survey which is free of charge.
A system is designed specifically to the site and your requirements and a system specification and quotation is sent to you in the post. Some domestic quotations can be composed on site.
All systems are normally hardwired and the cable is concealed where possible under existing carpet or in surface conduit or trunking. Some cables may be surface clipped.
Bee Tee Alarms Ltd will always take care in installing the cables and detection devices to ensure a minimum of disruption to the property.
We can provide a wireless intruder alarm option although some devices such as the external sounder and remote keypads do need to be hardwired.
There is a full 12 month parts and labour on all products supplied and installed by Bee Tee Alarms Ltd.
The individual maintenance agreement details if any extended warranty is included.
Yes: If the system includes remote signalling
